I'm a Brooklet, Georgia girl through and through — born and raised in Bulloch County, a Georgia Southern grad, and proud to call the Southeast home my entire life. My career has never followed a straight line, and honestly, I think that's exactly what makes me good at this.

I started out right out of college at the Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce, where I learned early on that business is really about people and relationships. From there I spent nearly eight years as Executive Director of the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority, leading a nationally accredited Main Street Program and helping drive over $5 million in public-private reinvestments that transformed our downtown — including the revitalization of what is now the Averitt Center for the Arts. I was featured in Georgia Trend Magazine, received the Statesboro Herald "Southern Women" Award, and spoke at conferences statewide. That chapter taught me how to build something from nothing, bring people together, and make things happen in a community.

Then came one of the wildest rides of my life. In 2015, I co-founded BattlBox — a subscription box company that grew from a living room idea into a globally recognized brand with over 500,000 subscribers worldwide. We grew so fast and so big that Netflix came knocking, and my property in Portal, Georgia became the filming location for the Netflix series Southern Survival. I was behind the scenes — always within earshot of the late-night international calls and deals being worked to make sure products arrived — and I learned firsthand what it takes to keep a global supply chain moving. I hosted production crews and executives on-site for months and learned what it truly means to scale a brand under pressure. That experience gave me a front-row seat to what large-scale movement of goods really looks like — and I loved every chaotic, rewarding minute of it.

After BattlBox, I moved into hotel management — first as Director of Sales & Marketing and then General Manager at the Holiday Inn Express in Statesboro, where I drove over $730K in year-over-year revenue growth across two years, managed budgets exceeding $1.2M, and kept the property in the top rankings in our competitive market. I even kept the entire hotel running for 24+ hours during Hurricane Helene — with a brand new front desk clerk who was still learning the ropes and my daughter, who was generously "volunteered" to help (unpaid, bless her heart) — all while Georgia Power linemen filled every room and our regular team couldn't get in. That's just what you do.

So why freight brokerage? Because everything I've done — community development, brand building, hospitality, logistics, sales — has been about one thing: connecting people and making things move. When Shannon and I saw the opportunity to build something of our own in this industry, it felt like every chapter of my career had been pointing here. I bring the big-picture thinking, the sales strategy, the relationship-building, and the "figure it out no matter what" mentality. Logistics isn't just about making calls; it's about making things happen. I’m not always at my desk because I’m out in the field rolling up my sleeves. When things get complicated, I’m the person who shows up face-to-face to tackle the tough roadblocks others shy away from. I act as your boots on the ground - managing your freight with hometown care and the relentless drive to get the job done.

I'm Shannon Davis, and I've spent my entire life right here in Bulloch County — raised in Statesboro, rooted in this community, and proud of it. If you want to understand who I am, you really only need to know two things: I spent 30 years shaping young people in the classroom and on the field, and I spent 30 years alongside my husband building and supporting our family trucking company. Everything I know about hard work, integrity, and showing up — I learned doing both of those things at the same time.

For over three decades, I stood alongside my husband as he built and ran Byron Davis Trucking LLC. I wasn't just a spectator—I was in the weeds of it, supporting the backbone of our family business. Logistics, compliance, carrier relationships, regulations, and the feast-and-famine cycles of the trucking industry—I lived all of it. I know exactly what it feels like to be on the carrier side of this business, which means I understand our carriers in a way most brokers simply don't. That perspective is something I bring to every single load we move.

At the same time, I earned my Master of Education and spent 30 years as a middle school teacher and coach. People always ask how I did both — honestly, I just don't know any other way. Teaching and coaching gave me skills that translate directly into brokering: patience, communication, the ability to read people quickly, and the kind of calm under pressure that comes from managing a gym full of twelve-year-olds on a Friday afternoon. Negotiation, conflict resolution, building trust — those aren't just resume words for me. They're things I practiced every single day for decades.

When Stephanie and I decided to build Steady Mile together, it felt like the most natural next chapter. She brings the brand-building, the sales strategy, and the big-picture vision. I bring the trucking knowledge, the operational backbone, and 30+ years of understanding exactly what carriers need from a broker they can trust. Together, we're not just a brokerage — we're two women from right here in Southeast Georgia who know this industry from the inside out and genuinely care about the people we work with.
